Registering a Korean website on search engines

Should I register my website with search engines?

I operate this development blog. Of course, I want many people to read the articles I write. The more people read this blog, the more advertising revenue I receive. However, even if I write a lot of articles, people may not know that I have written them. There's no way for them to go to a place they don't know. So, I need to register my site with search engines so that when someone searches, my blog will be displayed. To do that, I need to register my site with search engines. When I register, every time I write a new article, the search engine will crawl the content and save it, and when someone searches for related content, my page will be displayed.

Is it a hassle?

If registering with search engines is too much of a hassle, you don't have to do it. There are other ways. You can advertise. Register your site with advertising companies like Google Ads, and pay whenever your site information is displayed to people. In other words, registering your site with search engines allows you to market to your target audience for free. It's a choice between search engines promoting your blog for free and you paying for advertising. What will you choose? I will choose to register my site with search engines.

Which search engines should I register with?

All the articles on this blog are in Korean. So, I looked up the search engine statistics used by domestic users. Naver, Google, Daum, and Microsoft account for 97% of the top search engines used by users. So, it seems that registering with these 4 search engines will be sufficient.

### Google

To register your site with Google, you can do so through Google Search Console. After registering your site, go to the Sitemaps on the left menu and register the sitemap of the current page. A sitemap is a map that shows all the pages on a site. You can view the sitemap of my site here. However, you should know that Google takes the sitemap about once a day to check if new pages have been added, but it doesn't update immediately. It may take up to 2 weeks for a site registered today to appear in search engine results. I confirmed that my new articles appeared in Google search results about a week after writing them. Later, when site traffic increases, it may be crawled faster, but for small websites, it generally takes time.

### Naver

To register your site with Naver, you can do so through Naver Search Advisor. After logging in, go to the Webmaster Tools in the upper right corner to register your site. Then, through the menu on the left, you can submit your sitemap by going to Requests -> Submit Sitemap. Since I also recently requested registration with Naver, I don't know exactly how long it takes. I think it will be similar to Google.

### Daum

To register your site with Daum, you can do so through Daum Search Registration. It was surprising that you can register without logging in. The good thing is that search engine registration is done quickly. My site was immediately exposed in search engines within 1-2 days.

### MS Bing

You can register your site with Microsoft's search engine Bing through Bing Webmaster Tools. It was surprising that I could import the settings I registered with Google Search Console. Thanks to this, I was able to bypass procedures like domain ownership verification. After that, I immediately registered by clicking on Sitemaps in the left menu.

## Conclusion

This is how it ends. Now all that's left is to wait. Currently, all the content on the blog is in Korean, so it has attracted the attention of domestic users. However, if I write articles in English in the future, I will also have to register with search engines used by overseas users. I hope that time comes soon.
